Elite Platinum 6qt Digital Electronic Pressure Cooker Review

Elite Platinum 6qt Digital Electronic Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

I love this pressure cooker. I made some of the best chicken parm ever in it. And it is great for stock. and soup... and beets are great in it and so quick. I just honestly cant complain...
I know that the PSI of this pressure cooker being electronic is lower than the highest of 15 in the manual ones. However, i love the ability to "set it and forget it" I would hate to worry about the stove being on while the pressure cooker is on.
I love how i can sear something inside of this and then turn on the pressure part and finish it off in one part.and , i also love that the company stood by their product when i had a problem. After i made my chicken parm the bottom was ruined, i soaked and i used a magic eraser and to my horror the non stick coating came off, i was really angry b/c this is not a cheap item and because i use it all the time!
I emailed the company a photo and within 2 min someone called me and a replacement was on the way to me. THAT IS AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE.
the only reason i am giving 4 stars is to be a bit fair in the fact that i did have to call and get a replacement and it would have been nice for the inner pot to be non stick and indestructible . Also, it would be nice to be able to adjust the PSI, a low psi, med and the high 12 setting would be ideal
Also, would be really cool if there was an optional trivet accessory for this for when making roasts inside.
Next time i make chicken parm i plan on lining the bottom with some foil to avoid such bad sticking, even though most likely my inner pot was defective and not properly coated, i just want to err on the side of caution.

S-9891 pressure cooker gasket seal, fits Mirro. Review

S-9891 pressure cooker gasket seal, fits Mirro.

i also ordered this gasket and it was the correct model for my cooker.
The first time I used it, it would not hold the pressure. I then carefully pressed the gasket into the lid, making sure that it was not me inserting it incorrectly. This time it held pressure for about 5 minutes and then blew out.
Called several companies that sell mirro gaskets. They all had the same model. I think that the old gasket I had for years was a little wider and fit in the rim better. I am now using my old gasket, hope it holds out a little longer.

Fagor "Elite" Pressure Cooker Set Review

Fagor Elite Pressure Cooker Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Buy a pressure cooker if you think you'll use it at least once a week.
Buy this Fagor Elite pressure cooker set and you'll use it a lot more often. At home on ANY kind of range (smooth-top or coil electric, gas, induction), the two pots and their interchangeable lids add versatility to speed, and that equals more bang for your cookware buck (pardon the bad pun). The glass lid turns the 8-quart pot into a handy stockpot or pasta boiler. Put the lid on the 4-quart pan and, voila, it becomes that extra saucepan you never seem to have when you really, really need one. When dinner's ready but you're not (pressure cookers are rocket-fast, you know), replace the pressure lid with the glass lid to keep it warm without overcooking or drying out.
The stainless steel basket isn't big enough to hold a pound of long dry pasta, despite the photo, but it's the vessel of choice for shorter cuts like penne and rotelle, and for blanching filled pastas like ravioli and pirogies. Set it atop the trivet and it becomes the perfect steamer, whether you use the glass or pressure lid. And if it happens to fit a pot you already own, consider it a bonus.
Fagor pressure cookers are among the easiest to use and care for. Instead of a wobbling weight or a ringed post pressure indicator, Fagor uses a spring-loaded pressure regulator. Heat the cooker on high heat until steam begins to flow from the regulator, start your timer and then back off the heat to maintain a steady gentle hiss. Once you've found your stove's sweet spot, you're not chained to the cooktop. As long as you can see steam or hear the hiss, you can go about your other cooking tasks. Wobbling weight regulators can be thrown off if the pot is jostled, and sealed-system pressure cookers require a constant eye on the number of visible rings. The regulator is also the pressure release valve, engineered so that the steam dissipates and cools quickly. At six inches from the vent, the steam is warm but not hot enough to burn your skin. Remember, this is steam that's 250 degrees Fahrenheit when it's under pressure!
To keep the cook safe, Fagor pressure cookers have three locking mechanisms. The manual latch engages a pressure-activated locking pin that rises as pressure builds, keeping the cooker locked as long as pressure is present. The pressure itself pushes the flanges on the lid and pot together, creating a natural locking action. You'd have to be built like Mister Universe to force open a pressurized cooker. A small cutout in the lid exposes a portion of the gasket. If the pressure has no other way out, the gasket will stretch or snap, but will stay in place while the pressure escapes through the rim of the lid, not into the cook's face.
Odds are, whatever you pressure cook in one pot will be served with something you can prepare in the other as well. We use the 4-quart pot to pressure cook spaghetti sauce with quarter-pound meatballs in just 10 minutes under pressure, while the 8-quart pot and glass lid take care of the spaghetti. Every piece in the set, except the pressure lid and gasket, can go in the dishwasher. Your humble author uses Bar Keeper's Friend to take care of any really tough discoloration. Keeping the gasket clean is easy because it's so easy to remove and replace. With weekly use and proper care, a gasket lasts about 12 to 18 months. The money you save on energy will more than pay for a new gasket.
If you've never heard of Fagor or you're wondering if it's a brand a pro would use, Lola Bistro owner and head chef Michael Symon used a Fagor pressure cooker while competing to become Food Network's newest Iron Chef. He then went on to win his first Iron Chef America challenge, preparing one of his winning dishes in his Fagor. Although he's not officially connected to Fagor in any way, I can't think of a better endorsement.

Average Reviews:

I have to highly recommend this Fissler pressure cooker. This was my very first pressure cooker, I followed the manual washed it well and did the first run with the water and lemon juice, then fixed beans. Being a little afraid of pressure cooker stories, I didn't cook it as long as I should have. This has so many SAFETY features, it just doesn't seem like you could go wrong, unless you do wrong on purpose. Needless to say in 40 min's the pinto beans were about 88% cooked and I was very impressed. I'm making Garbanzo beans right now. It is so silent! So completely intact, and only takes a couple minutes to reach the second white band on the rod, then just lower the heat to keep it steady and set the timer and off you go to do something else! I love my Fissler Pressure Cooker, I truly believe it was worth EVERY PENNY it cost me. I'll be using this for years! Thank-You Fissler!!! For making pressure cooking a joy!

Zojirushi NP-HBC18 10-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer with Induction Heating System, Stainless Steel Review

Zojirushi NP-HBC18 10-Cup Rice Cooker and Warmer with Induction Heating System, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

We thought we knew what rice was supposed to be like when we used our Costco Aroma Rice Cookers--we would just, as a matter of course, replace the old ones with the same brand... Until this time.
After reading up on consumer reviews and Japanese sites, we opted to try the Zojirushi Induction Heating Rice Cooker. The stainless steel is STUNNING--the pictures do NOT do it justice--it is gorgeous on my countertop--a piece of furniture, like the KitchenAid Mixer. It is easy to set up (clock time, etc) and easy to use. (The directions are very clear.) I tried some Jasmine Rice in it for our first try--and WOW! I was totally amazed! Each piece of rice is perfect in every way. I have never had such results before. Perfect temperature, perfect texture, perfect stickiness, perfect taste. The aroma in the kitchen fills the house and it's wonderful.
There is very little steam (unlike most rice cookers) and it is very easy to clean up. It keeps the rice at that perfect temperature for hours--even longer with the extended warm feature.
I know it's expensive--but in this case, I truly believe you get what you pay for. If you want to know what rice is supposed to be like--you must get one of these! Zojirushi makes a couple of different types of rice cookers--and I have heard that they are all terrific. This one cooks with induction heating, which uses magnets... the unit doesn't get hot...
If you can--get this one!

This cooker is designed in a way that lets you stir your food easily. Its broad faced so excellent for making quick potato medley (Aloo ki sabzi) or dal good for a family of four people. Easy to clean because of its design.I really like it. One thing though; as is for other pressure cookers; don't put it in the dishwasher it will lose its shine.

Magefesa Mageplus Stainless Steel 6.5 Quart Super Fast Pressure Cooker Review

Magefesa Mageplus Stainless Steel 6.5 Quart Super Fast Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Hello,
I have used the old Presto rattle top pressure cooker and the American (Wisconsin Aluminum) pressure cooker for years. Both are aluminum and use the rattle top device on top of the pressure cooker to control pressure. I have researched pressure cookers for a while now and decided on the Magefesa Mageplus pressure cooker, I have the 8 and 4 liter pots. According to Cook's Illustrated the Rikon Kuhn and Fagor are the best. The German WMF Is right up there and the Presto stainless does well too. But after checking on the Magefesa I learned that Cooks Illustrated test used the Magefesa XL or Practika pressure cooker for testing. It did well but not as good as this one would have. This one is their top of the line pressure cooker. The XL or Practika is in the middle and uses a different type of pressure control. This Mageplus pressure cooker uses a similar pressure control to the Kuhn Rikon and WMF cookers. After using these I can not imagine a pressure cooker being any easier and safer to use. The large pressure indicator (a button with lines) moves up and down with pressure. It is very easy to see and adjust burner temperature as needed to control pressure. If you walk away or forget, there are other safety devices to keep everything safe, 5 total.
From what I have seen, it is easy to clean, well made and should last a very long time, time will tell.
For those of you who are a little scared of pressure cookers. If you will pull up a chair and watch the first 2 or 3 times you use any pressure cooker you will see how they work with YOUR stove. You need to learn how the pressure cooker acts on your stove. Once that is done you will feel confident and try new things with your pressure cooker.
Good luck.
Something I failed to mention is this .8 bar or 12 PSI is a touch below 240 degrees that 15 PSI would generate. This is a good thing as far as vitamins go. The slightly lower cooking temperature does not kill vitamins that would be destroyed at 15 PSI.

WMF Perfect Plus 8-1/2-Quart Pressure Cooker Review

WMF Perfect Plus 8-1/2-Quart Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I guess I am rhapsodizing over this pressure cooker but it's the 4th one I've tried and I must say I love it!
We remodeled our kitchen and our new cooktop is an induction model so our old (20+ year) aluminum PC no longer worked for us.
I tried Futuro, Kuhn Rikon and some other brand I don't recall. None was both thick enough to prevent food burning and with a simple and easy to use pressure system.
I cook daily for 6 or more and this cooker is big enough to meet all my needs. In the few days I've had it, I've made risotto - no burning, cheesecake - no cracking, chicken cacciatore and brisket. Every recipe was perfect when done.
Clean up is a snap - remove the handle and rinse under running water. Remove the sealing ring and wash by hand. Toss everything else in the dishwasher.
Did I say I love this pressure cooker? Yes, it's expensive but well worth it!
06/27/2010 Edited to add that the pressure release valve with the little ball in it cracked. I called WMF America and they were happy to send a new one. There were no customer service issues at all. The people I spoke to were helpful and courteous.
We still love our cooker and continue to get lots of use from it.

Casa Essentials Aluminum Pressure Cooker, 5 Qt. Review

Casa Essentials Aluminum Pressure Cooker, 5 Qt.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Like the other poster, I got this at Macy's for around $33. It's the budget Fagor line. Apparently what this means is a few simple things:
1. it's aluminum, not stainless steel
2. it's 9", not 10"
3. it's old-fashioned
4. it works, but with some caveats
Let's take each of those in reverse:
4. Fagor knows what they're doing.
3. This means that the pressure technology is the old kind, where pressure builds up and starts rocking a little bobbin on the steam vent. This noisy constant buzzing if off-putting to some cooks, but you want to hear it because it means everything's steaming along.
Newer designs have dials and assorted pressure settings, that give you more control and allow you to release the steam instantly and safely. This one is lower-tech. When you turn off the burner, it slowly loses pressure (okay for beans and meats, not so great for veggies and seafood). To instantly release, you have to carry it to your sink and run cold water over it. However, this is easy enough if your sink is close, and it works every time.
It does have an auto-locking mechanism (so it cannot be opened when pressurized), and it has two more safety features: a backup steam vent, and if all else fails the gasket blows. Ideally, these features would never be employed, but it's nice to have them.
2. It's 5 qts., which might be small for some. I'm generally cooking for two, and you can fit a whole 4 lb. chicken in it or three or so lamb shanks (and it cooks beautifully), so it's just fine for me. The proportions are ample and aesthetically pleasing.
1. Many people cook fine with uncoated aluminum all over the world. You have to make your own choice how you feel about that. However, it's not completely non-reactive: acids like citrus and vinegar can lead to pitting of the metal. This isn't the pot for frequent tomato gravy. Unfortunately, I tried those things eventually and found it did end up affecting flavor of other items.
Bottom line, I've made 16-bean soup, beef stew, whole chicken and chicken-cut-up, baked beans, ham hocks and black beans, and am online today to buy a springform pan to try and make a cheesecake in it. I use it weekly since I bought it, and I find it a great time saver. Some tips for flavor: brown first if possible. I haven't had a real problem with sticking (no worse than other pans). Use a trivet under big pieces of meat (I found some on ebay). Do all your spicing with dry herbs at the beginning; they will rehydrate beautifully. Add as little oil or fat as possible; remember it's got nowhere to go once sealed, and meats will baste themselves. However, you should use oil with beans, to prevent foaming.
I do agree that it's a good starter cooker, but I have since upgraded to a stainless steel model. I miss that bouncing bobbin, though!

Probably most people don't use a pressure cooker these days, but since my mother always used one, I do, too. I have one of the "old" ones, and I love it! Bayou Classic KAB4 High Pressure Banjo Cooker Review

Bayou Classic KAB4 High Pressure Banjo Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this burner for home brewing beer at the recommendation of one of the homebrew forums I read regularly. The box arrived in a little bit rough shape, but everything worked great. Very easy to use, just hook up to a propane tank similar to the way you hook up a gas grill.
It generates a lot of heat! This is a mixed blessing as it gets a good boil going, but I found it a little bit difficult to control the heat (getting it to slow down enough to not over boil).
For my own use, I run it with the lowest amount of air/gas available (lowest flame), but if you are in need of serious heat or doing some serious outdoor cooking this burner does the job!
Pros: Lot of flame, easy to use, easy to setup.
Cons: Little difficult to control the heat as the lowest setting still runs a bit hot.
