Ronco Chef 'N Go Multifunction Pressure Cooker Review

Ronco Chef 'N Go Multifunction Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Chef 'n Go from Ronco is a marvelous, versatile machine that can cook anything. It browns, steams, bakes and cooks, and then it keeps your food warm until you're ready to serve it. Our family of 5 liked the idea of a crock pot, but the Chef 'n Go is MUCH better - the food has perfect texture and flavor, and you can brown meats before adding other ingredients. It also holds enough food to feed our 3 eternally hungry teenage boys. It is intuitive to use, easy to clean, and we use ours at least 3 timesz a week. We saw one demonstrated on a morning news show, and were impressed enough to buy one for ourselves. I'm very glad we did!

Magefesa Ideal Stainless Steel Pressure Cookers Review

Magefesa Ideal Stainless Steel Pressure Cookers
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This poor review is partly Amazon's fault, as the item shipped poorly.. The damn thing was in a big box by itself with one some feeble paper packing.. Naturally, it was broken.. a small part in the handle had broken off.
So, I sent it back.
But that is NOT the fault of the manufacturer.. The cooker itself seemed a little lightweight.. not of the highest quality. Chinese thru and thru... not Spanish as some of the literature suggests. When my mother learned that my pot was broken on shipping, she turned over a new, but stowed away Rapida pressure cooker.. This one was heavy and of much higher quality.. It had been manufactured some five years ago.. I understand the manufacturer of the Rapida is now using China imports.. so the current Rapida may not be of the same quality...
Whatever... this Magafesa was totally unimpressive... Shop around..

All-Clad 99009 Stainless-Steel 6-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker Review

All-Clad 99009 Stainless-Steel 6-1/2-Quart Slow Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I work almost everyday (including Sundays) so this pot has been my life saver (or the dinner saver). My older one was 5qt. cool touch Rival. This All-Clad cooker cooks so much faster than my older one (the inside temperature of All-clad gets 230F in high setting). Ribs and 5 pound chicken done in 4 hours in high. If you want crispy chicken skin, let it cook for 6 hours. I highly recommend this product.
By the way I put small roasting rack when I roast chicken or ribs so that they don't stew in the dripping. Save the dripping broth. Put it in the fridge overnight, and get rid of the fat. And use it in your soup or stew, of course, this cooker can do that job just fine as well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Updated Review: 4/17/2008
I've been using this slow cooker at least twice a week. Time to time I would hear "pop" sound either in the middle or toward the end of the cooking time. I couldn't figure out what was making this sound. One day my husband found cracks on the ceramic insert. They were fine cracks, but the cracks were in inside and outside. I contacted All-Clad. The service rep. told me to send a picture of the cracks. So I did. For several weeks I didn't hear anything from them. So I contacted them again. Apparently they didn't get my email with the pictures. So I sent them again. The next day I got a phone call from All-Clad that they would send me a new insert. It arrived a couple of days ago. I made a most wonderful chicken soup with leftover rottisserie chicken yesterday. I'm starting my love affair with this slow cooker again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update Review: 11/9/2009
I wish I could say that my slow cooker insert is still going strong. Unfortunately it isn't. I really tried to use them (I have gone through 3 inserts) as much as I could - until I could see the leak. I thought of getting a metal insert. However, it costs $200 NOT including shipping and handling. So I got the most modest Rival Slow Cooker: a 7-qt. with a turn dial. I've had it for 7 months. So far no cracks. It boils water quicker than All-Clad even in the low setting, but still no cracks. I had talked to an All-Clad rep about a possible defect in the ceramic insert, but she didn't seem to believe that theory. I wish I could change the rating to 2-star. It could have been 1-star, but I liked All-Clad's customer services.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additional Comment: FYI the 2nd insert cracked within 2 hours in the high setting and the 3rd insert cracked in the low setting. After that I began to think maybe the inserts were defective. I did not abuse them. I only used as directed: high or low and went through the dishwasher. I'm using my humble and simple Rival cooker in the same way, and so far no cracks. I thought of getting the metal insert for the All-Clad Slow Cooker, but it was too expensive: $200 for the insert, over $50 for the metal lid (required for the metal insert) and $70 shipping and handling. Besides the reviews were not good for their non-stick metal insert. I'm very happy with my humble Rival 7 qt. Slow Cooker.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update: 6/10/2010
My humble 7-qt Rival slow cooker is still going strong. I've been using it every week, and still no cracks so far. I have made roasts, soups, stews, and casseroles. I haven't made dessert yet. I've seen Sandra Lee "baking" dessert in her white slow cooker. I can't remember if it was Rival or not. But I'll try someday.

Fissler 021 674 10 000 Blue Point 10-1/2-Quart Pressure Cooker Review

Fissler 021 674 10 000 Blue Point 10-1/2-Quart Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

This pressure cooker is gorgeous, looks like it'll last at least a couple of lifetimes, and is completely silent unlike the jiggle-top cooker it replaces. Amazon isn't giving these things away, but it's worth the money on esthetic and practical grounds.Update two years on: As solid as these look, the plastic parts get brittle with repeated use, and will require replacement. Fissler commits to making parts available for ten years after the purchase date, so the expected lifetime of the cooker is probably not much more than that. I still like this, but I can't consider it a good value for money.
When you do need to buy replacement parts, I advise you to buy from fisslerstore in North Carolina - they are businesslike. The warranty agent in Los Angeles is unreliable.

Chef's Design 10-7/8-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker Review

Chef's Design 10-7/8-Quart Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
There are some great things about this pot:
It's made from stainless steel which is easy to
keep clean and which has none of the corrosion
problems that plague aluminum.
The price is right. You can pay a lot for a fancy
Swiss model-four times as much in fact and in this
case, you don't get what you pay for.
It will add a dimension to your cooking. Dishes
that used to take all day can be cooked in an hour
or two and homemade stocks and soups will return
to your table.
All of the safety problems that used to come with
pressure cookers have been solved and there's no reason
to deny you and your family all that good food.
Bear in mind that this larger size cooker needs
an appropriately sized burner and that any browning
needs to be done cautiously.

After doing some research, this brand name came up as a recommendation and after seeing this discounted price I had to go for it.
What I like about it:
Aluminum core base for even heat distribution.
Made in Spain, not China
Brushed stainless steel interior, no toxic non-stick coatings
Everything feels very sturdy and well-made
2 pressure settings, multiple safety release valves.
In fact I liked it so much after using it the first time, I'm buying a 2nd one for multiple course cooking.

Sanyo ECJ-HC55S 5-1/2-Cup Micro-Computerized Rice Cooker and Slow Cooker, White Review

Sanyo ECJ-HC55S 5-1/2-Cup Micro-Computerized Rice Cooker and Slow Cooker, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Purchased this rice cooker for my wife. We are both enjoying it a lot. The parts are solid and simply feel like high quality. There are two bowls. The rice cooking bowl has a better non-stick coating on it. The other bowl for non-rice cooking is easy enough to clean, but might take a little soaking for those challenging situations.
Selection is easy to understand. The slow-cook options are partially what sold me on this unit. You can cook so many things in this cooker, because you can manually cook instead of always having to follow a programmed option.
Rice can be kept warm up to 12 hours. It has a great sealing system, so it does stay fresh.
The unit looks very nice on the counter. The battery runs the clock, unless you keep the unit plugged into the outlet. The battery is suppose to run for 4 years or so.
Quality of rice cooked -- The rice has been PERFECT every time we have cooked rice. We are using a Jasmine rice bought from a local asian market. We simply wash the rice twice, put in the required amount of water, and set it to cook. So far it has been perfect each time.
I ended up buying this over the Zojirushi based on price and couldn't be happier. I saved maybe a $100 and am 100% happy with the product. We've been using this for 3 weeks now.
Cleaning is easy and fast. The removable lid/seal is great and easy to clean. It is not possible to latch the cover if the removable cover is not in place -- a nice feature and great engineering.
The steam collector works well. Be careful not to put your hand close to the exit hole as steam is not fully condensed coming out and could burn you. This is not really a safety concern for me and my wife. Cleaning the collector is not a problem so far. Simply remove and shake out the water. Any water dripping down is caught in a silicon seal. You can easily take a towl and soak up the very small amount of water that might drip out. It is only water and doesn't mess anything up.
I would buy this over again based on my experience so far. Can't speak about reliability yet. I can only hope Sanyo brand will be good. I don't usually buy their products.

As I rapidly roar toward middle-age, I have not been paying as much attention to my diet as I should. Then on my forty-something birthday, my friend gave me this Presto 05100 PowerCrisp Microwave Bacon Cooker. It was one of the best gifts I've ever received. Besides removing unhealthy grease and fat from my bacon, it actually is neater and more convenient than using a frying pan. But health, convenience and neatness be darned! The bacon tastes great! This is a great product.

Coleman High-Pressure Propane Hose and Adapter Review

Coleman High-Pressure Propane Hose and Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is what I needed and seems to be good quality. Minus one star because the price is so high.
It was hard to tell from the description (here at Amazon and other web sites) if the connectors on this hose were correct for my needs and how it attaches. I ordered it anyway and luckily it is what I needed to connect a propane tank (the type that is normally used for an outdoor grill) to my 25-year old 2-burner Coleman camp stove. One end of this hose has the same connector you find at the top of the small 16oz Coleman propane cylinders -- so it attaches to the metal tube connector that normally goes between a 16oz cylinder and the stove. The other end of this hose attaches to larger propane tanks like the new one I just bought. I don't know what a 20# tank is, but mine is like 3 gallons in size -- the usual kind that people use for outdoor grills. I found out, however, that it does not fit the quick-release connection that I have on a different propane tank that came with my Weber grill. I'll have to see if there's a (quick release) adapter available so that I can use this hose with that other propane tank also.

It's been a month since I bought the rice cooker. The rice cooker has been doing great. My family cook rice every day and have used different rice cookers for over three decades. Sanyo ECJ-JG10W is the best we ever used. When I received the rice cooker from Amazon, I got a chance to test it. Few months ago I bought 50 pounds of rice at C****o as it's 60% off regular price. Well, you get what you pay for. The rice got no taste or smell at all and we can tell that it's been sitting in the warehouse for a long long time. After few tries we gave up on it. As I got the new rice cooker, I used it to cook that old rice to see how good the rice cooker would be. It's very easy to use. Push the "start" button, wait for 40 minutes and the rice is ready. I was amazed by the magic it did. The rice was incredibly delicious. It's as delicious as the regular Japanese rice. I tried different white rice on it and the rice cooker upgraded them all! It's a little bit pricy but it's worth it. Now I am spoiled by my rice cooker so that I always complain the restaurants don't serve good rice when I eat out:D

Take the guesswork out of making restaurant-quality rice at home with this easy-to-use cooker. The handy appliance offers a 5-1/2-cup uncooked-rice capacity, producing up to 11 cups of cooked rice at a time--great when gathering a group of friends or the whole family for dinner. Simply add dry rice, measure in the water, make a selection from the one-touch control panel, and push the "start" button. Thoughtfully designed, the micro-computerized cooker features induction heating for fast, even heating; variable pressure-control technology for enhanced taste and flavor, and Fuzzy Logic technology, which automatically makes fine adjustments to the temperature and heating time to ensure perfectly cooked rice. It also provides a two-layer, extra-thick (2-1/2 mm) nonstick inner pot with a copper-coated exterior for maximum heat distribution. Once the rice has cooked, the appliance automatically switches over to keep-warm mode, which maintains an ideal serving temperature for up to 30 hours. In addition, the unit's large LCD clock offers a timer function that allows for meals to be ready up to 24 hours ahead of time, which means dinner can be ready and waiting after a long day at the office. Choose from a variety of menu options including rice dishes such as white, rinse-free, haiga, brown, sprouted brown, sweet, mixed, sushi, zakkoku, wild, and Dol Sot Bi Bim Bab. Even more, it offers a pre-soak function for additional rice-soaking time, a steam function for steaming vegetables (with included steam tray), a slow-cook function for preparing soups and stews, and a sleep function for extended keep-warm time and energy savings. Other highlights include a locking device for safe pressure cooking; multi-texture selections for regular, firm, or soft; a removable steam vent; a retractable cord; and a carrying handle for taking cooked food right to the table. Accessories include a handy measuring cup, spatula, and multi-language instruction manual with recipes. Made in Japan, the 1200-watt cooker measures approximately 14-7/8 by 10-1/2 by 8-3/4 inches.

Cuisinart FRC-800 Rice Plus Multi-Cooker with Fuzzy Logic Technology Review

Cuisinart FRC-800 Rice Plus Multi-Cooker with Fuzzy Logic Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this rice/oatmeal/slow cooker now for 6 months. This machine cooks all kinds of rice extremely well and that's what it primarily was designed to do. You can cook sushi, brown, risotto, etc. rices and they turn out perfect. They also stay warm and perfectly moist if you need to set the keep warm function. The parts remove easily for cleaning.
The easy to read display doesn't tell you how many minutes it will take to cook your rice choice. You have to read through the instruction booklet to find out how long each cycle is. A countdown function of remaining time would have been really nice. The first time I made brown rice my family waited almost 2 hours to eat dinner.
This machine doesn't do the extra stuff very well. I made 1 cup of steel cut (Irish) oatmeal with 2 cups of water in a machine designed to hold 8 cups of water. The frothy water boiled over, out of the steam hole, and into the electronics board. It fried the circuit board. Fortunately the unit comes with a 3 years, no questions asked warranty. Cuisinart sent me a replacement unit for $10 shipping/handling.
The slow cooker function runs on the equivalent of "high" temperature for a slow cooker. They don't tell you that in the user manual. When you use the unit on slow cooker, the first 10 minutes of the cycle sautes whatever you put in the pan. This is useful if you need to brown meat or onions.
I love Cuisinart but this one doesn't live up to the usual quality of Cuisinart products. I have the machine and will use it 'till it dies, but I don't know if I would buy another.
