About a year ago, I ordered a 1/2-liter Patisse steamed pudding mold. I was in for some surprises.
I ordered the mold because I have always been curious about English-style steamed puddings. The mold's price was sufficiently modest that I decided to "give it a go".
My first impressions were similar to some of the others that have been expressed. The mold is not exactly "heavy duty" and the lid is thin and easily dented and/or bent. (On the other hand, the lid is SO lightly constructed that minor dents and bends are easily fixed with just finger pressure.)
The "surprises" arose from how easy the mold is to use and how often I have used it.
Somehow, I got the impression that steamed puddings were difficult and complicated to make. Not so! While there are some steamed pudding recipes that are a bit complicated there are other really delicious puddings that are just dead easy to make.
I have also been surprised about how often I use the mold. I expected to only use the mold once or twice as "an experiment". It turns out that I use the thing, on average, about twice a week. One of the reasons for such frequency of use is that I have found that steamed pudding makes great "breakfast food", either made fresh or "left over". Especially when puddings contain fruit and/or nuts they can be a great improvement over donuts!
